A video of the dramatic rescue was released by the Thessaloniki Police Officers’ Union, which publicly praised the officers who took part in the operation. In its statement, the union stressed that “behind the uniform are human beings,” delivering a message of compassion and solidarity.
The union said: “The Thessaloniki Police Officers’ Union congratulates all of our colleagues who, since yesterday, have been on the front lines and, under extremely difficult conditions, have helped evacuate affected areas and guide our fellow citizens to safety, just as they did a few days ago in the area of Liti.”
