Man Arrested Over Abuse of 16-Year-Old Partner

Police forced entry into a home to free the teenager after receiving a report from a relative, while authorities say the suspect has a history of domestic violence cases

A 35-year-old businessman has been arrested in the western Greek city of Patras on charges including unlawful detention and threats against his 16-year-old girlfriend, in a case that has sparked public concern due to the victim’s age and the suspect’s reported criminal history.

According to police, the case came to light after a relative of the teenager alerted authorities. Officers were dispatched to the suspect’s residence, where he was allegedly holding the girl against her will and preventing her from leaving the property.

Police Forced Entry Into the Home

The operation to free the teenager reportedly became confrontational, with officers forced to break down the door to enter the residence and safely remove the girl.

Authorities said the suspect reacted aggressively during his arrest, allegedly insulting officers and threatening legal action against them.

During a subsequent search of the property, police discovered a small quantity of cannabis, which was confiscated. The man now faces charges related to domestic violence as well as drug possession.

Repeat Offender in Domestic Violence Cases

According to the Greek police, the suspect is a repeat offender in domestic violence-related incidents.

Reports indicate that he had previously been arrested in 2024 following allegations by a former partner involving physical violence, threats and verbal abuse. Police sources also said he had been arrested in the past in connection with a separate drug-related case following a traffic stop.

In an official statement, police said the accused had threatened his underage partner and unlawfully detained her inside his home, preventing her from leaving.

The suspect has been referred to the competent judicial authorities, while the investigation remains ongoing.
