A 17-year-old boy on the autism spectrum is hospitalized with a fractured jaw following a violent assault at a crowded fair in Nea Filadelfeia on the evening of May 2, police said.
The incident unfolded during the annual outdoor event, where the teenager was attending with his two sisters. Authorities say the violence stemmed from a minor dispute that quickly escalated in the crowd.
Altercation escalates into violence
According to police, the confrontation began after accidental physical contact between the victim’s 20-year-old sister and the 20-year-old partner of the alleged attacker.
The argument intensified, with the woman reportedly confronting the victim’s sister verbally and physically.
The teenager got startled by the incident and began shouting. The 25-year-old partner then intervened, striking the sister before punching the 17-year-old.
The blow caused serious injury, leaving the teenager with a broken jaw. The suspect is reported to have knowledge of martial arts.
Both the man and his partner fled the scene immediately after the assault.
Arrests and legal proceedings
Police tracked down and arrested the two suspects the following day. They face charges including causing dangerous bodily harm to a vulnerable person and aiding an offender.
Authorities said the suspects have admitted involvement in the incident, and a case file has been prepared for judicial proceedings.
Victim hospitalized, differing accounts emerge
The injured teenager was transported to a central Athens hospital, where he remains under medical care.
