A 48-year-old Sudanese man was taken into custody at the former Evelpidon Courthouse in Athens following a tense incident outside the Attica General Police Headquarters (GADA). The man is set to appear before the investigating magistrate for questioning.

According to the official statement from GADA, the suspect approached the police checkpoint at the main entrance on Alexandras Avenue carrying a backpack and a bag, claiming he possessed explosives.

The situation was quickly brought under control by police forces coordinated by the Operations Center. A specialized Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit arrived on the scene and safely neutralized two defensive grenades found in the suspect’s possession.

Authorities also conducted a controlled detonation to ensure public safety in the area. No injuries were reported during the incident.

The suspect was immediately transferred under police escort to the Evelpidon Courts for formal proceedings, marking the resolution of what could have been a potentially deadly situation in central Athens.
