A private mini bus unexpectedly fell into the sea at the port of Dafni on Mount Athos, northern Greece, on Tuesday morning, triggering an immediate response from the local coast guard. Authorities quickly arrived at the scene and confirmed that the vehicle was partially submerged, with only the 72-year-old driver inside.

The elderly driver managed to exit the vehicle unassisted and was reported to be in good health. In his statement to the Mount Athos Coast Guard, he attributed the accident to a handling error while operating the mini bus.

Officials confirmed that the incident caused no marine pollution, easing concerns about environmental impact. The vehicle was later lifted from the water under the supervision of its owner.

Mount Athos, known for its monastic communities and limited road access, occasionally faces challenges with vehicle accidents due to narrow roads and steep terrain. Although this incident did not involve any other people or property, it underscores the potential risks in the area.
