Search efforts for a missing Dutch tourist in Greece’s Epirus region ended in tragedy after her body was discovered in Vikos Gorge. The 65-year-old woman had been reported missing on Thursday while hiking with her husband.
According to the fire service, a drone located her body approximately 300 meters down the gorge. Rescue teams from the 5th Disaster Response Unit and a special mountain rescue squad are now working with climbing equipment to retrieve her remains.
The disappearance occurred near the “Beloe” viewpoint in central Zagori. Her husband told authorities that he had briefly left to take photographs and, upon returning, could not find her. After searching, he contacted the European emergency number 112 to report her missing.
The rugged terrain and steep cliffs made the search particularly difficult. Specialized drone teams were deployed to scan the area and eventually spotted signs that led to the discovery of her body.
