Mother, Daughter Killed in Devastating Crash on Rhodes Hwy

Two women lost their lives after a violent crash overturned their vehicle on the national road in Rhodes, as authorities investigate reports of excessive speed and possible traffic signal violations

A catastrophic road accident on the island of Rhodes on Sunday cost the life of a 54-year-old woman and her 20-year-old daughter, following a violent collision on the Rhodes–Lindos national road, adding to growing concerns over traffic safety across the country.

According to preliminary reports, the vehicle carrying the two women collided with another car under circumstances that remain under investigation. The impact was so severe that the car overturned and was reduced to a mangled mass of metal.

Images from the crash site showed twisted wreckage, deployed airbags and debris scattered across the roadway, underscoring the force of the collision.

Firefighters rushed to the scene and used hydraulic tools to cut through the crushed vehicle in an effort to free the victims. Tragically, both women were recovered unconscious and were later confirmed dead.

Three people traveling in the second vehicle sustained minor injuries and were transported to Rhodes General Hospital as a precaution.

Witnesses told local media that the mother and daughter had reportedly entered the service road on a green light, while the second vehicle was allegedly traveling at high speed before slamming into them.

The latest fatal accident comes amid continued debate over road safety in Greece. Although recent data show a decline in traffic deaths nationwide, experts warn that speeding and dangerous driving remain persistent problems on Greek roads.
