More than 2,600 livestock farms across Greece have been affected, with nearly 480,000 animals culled as authorities urge strict biosecurity measures to contain the outbreak

More than 2,000 confirmed cases of sheep and goat pox have been recorded nationwide, according to the Ministry of Rural Development and Food and the National Scientific Committee for the Management and Control of the disease.

The latest figures show that 2,105 cases have been confirmed, affecting 2,610 livestock farms across the country. Authorities report that 479,821 animals have been culled in efforts to contain the outbreak.

New Cases Across Seven Regions

Between February 9 and 15, 2026, ten new cases were detected in seven regional units:

  • Aetolia-Acarnania: 2
  • Achaea: 1
  • Ilia: 3
  • Kavala: 1
  • Xanthi: 2
  • Rodopi: 1
  • Serres: 1

Officials stress that the data are continuously updated as regional authorities submit final reports, with regular public announcements aimed at ensuring transparent and timely information for farmers and the wider public.

Biosecurity Measures Remain Critical

The Ministry and the National Scientific Committee underline that strict adherence to biosecurity protocols is essential to limit further spread of the disease. Livestock producers are urged to follow veterinary service guidelines closely and implement all prescribed preventive measures.
