The disappearance of 16-year-old Laura has entered its twelfth day, deepening concern and prompting a public appeal from her parents, who firmly deny allegations of abuse and insist their only wish is for their daughter to return home safely.
In a written statement, Laura’s parents described the past days as “dramatic,” stressing that they contacted the police immediately after her disappearance and have remained in close cooperation with authorities ever since. They categorically rejected claims circulating publicly, stating that they have never exercised any form of violence—psychological or physical—against their child. According to their account, the only disagreements ever involved her academic performance and nothing more.
“We are only interested in finding our Laura and bringing her back home,” the parents said, adding that they have traveled to Athens and searched extensively in an effort to locate her. Addressing their daughter directly, they urged her to return, emphasizing that “our arms are open and our love is immense.” They also appealed to anyone who may have information to immediately contact the authorities, underlining that Laura is a minor who may be in danger.
Last Known Sightings and Unanswered Questions
Laura was last seen on January 10–11, when security cameras recorded her movements in the Zografou area of Athens. Witnesses reported seeing her at a bakery, where she asked for access to WiFi before requesting help to call a taxi toward the city center.
Investigators are also examining the significance of items she left behind, including her school bag and student pass, which were found near a trash container. This detail has raised questions within the police about whether she may have intended to mislead authorities regarding her movements or intentions.
International Searches Yield No Results
Police investigations have extended beyond Greece, reaching as far as Germany and Ukraine, the country of origin of Laura and her parents, in an effort to locate distant relatives who might offer clues. So far, these efforts have produced no results. Authorities have also noted that Laura does not appear to have used any form of transportation that would require passport control.
Focus on a Possible External Influence
Adding another layer to the case, media reports point to the presence of a woman who may have had a strong influence on Laura. According to information cited by local broadcaster Star, the woman—described as the mother of a friend Laura met in Germany—allegedly maintained frequent contact with the teenager.
The woman reportedly told Laura that her parents were oppressive and expressed that she viewed the girl as her own child. She is also said to have filed a report that resulted in Laura being temporarily placed in a support facility for a few days. Authorities are now examining whether the two continued communicating afterward and what role, if any, this relationship may have played in Laura’s disappearance.
