Greek Red Cross to Offer Free First Aid Training for Dogs in Athens

The Hellenic Red Cross will hold free demonstrations in Syntagma Square on Aug. 26, teaching pet owners basic first-aid measures and what to include in a portable first-aid kit for dogs

The Hellenic Red Cross will organize a public event in central Athens on Aug. 26 to mark World Dog Day, offering free demonstrations on first aid for dogs.

The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Syntagma Square, near the metro station.

The initiative aims to familiarize the public with basic first-aid techniques for dogs as part of an educational program being implemented across Greece.

Free demonstrations for dog owners

According to the Hellenic Red Cross, first-aid instructors for dogs from its Samaritans-Rescuers and Lifeguards Division will provide free demonstrations and explain to members of the public what a portable first-aid kit for their pets should contain.

The organization says first aid for dogs consists of simple measures that anyone can apply to help restore vital functions, protect the animal’s life and prevent its condition from worsening until a veterinarian can take over.

How to join the training program

People interested in attending the Hellenic Red Cross’ dog first-aid training program can register through the organization’s online expression-of-interest form.

They can also contact the Samaritans-Rescuers and Lifeguards Division by email at samareites@redcross.gr or by phone at 210-5248132.
