Revolut Launches Tool to Block Phone Scam Attempts

The new feature alerts users in real time if a call is not from Revolut, guiding them with clear steps to protect their money from sophisticated impersonation scams

Revolut has introduced a new in-app feature designed to protect users from an increasing wave of phone-based impersonation scams. The system detects when a customer is on a call—whether through the Revolut app or other apps—and verifies whether the caller is an official representative.

If a scam attempt is identified, users are immediately guided on how to report the incident and safeguard their funds. This adds an extra layer of protection beyond standard fraud prevention methods.

With the rise of AI-generated deepfake voices and advanced social engineering tactics, criminals are creating highly convincing scenarios to trick victims into transferring money or sharing sensitive information. Studies indicate that only 25% of people can accurately distinguish a real voice from a fake one, leaving consumers highly vulnerable.

The new Revolut feature displays a real-time banner during calls. For verified calls from Revolut, it confirms legitimacy. If the call is suspicious, an urgent alert warns the user and provides practical instructions to respond safely.

Rami Kalai, Revolut’s Product Owner, stated: “As fraudsters adopt AI and deepfake tools, we must innovate rapidly to protect our customers. This feature provides real-time alerts and actionable steps to prevent impersonation scams while they happen.”

This launch is part of Revolut’s broader strategy to protect users from fraud. In 2024 alone, the company’s advanced fraud-prevention systems prevented losses exceeding £600 million. Additional safety measures include secure in-app calls, property protection features, and machine learning systems that detect and block risky transactions before they occur.

The call-recognition feature is already available to iOS users, while Android users can activate it through the app’s Security Center.
