A disturbing act of violence unfolded in the suburb of Ilion, west of Athens, where a 16-year-old boy was reportedly set on fire by a 20-year-old man inside a private residence. The attack, which has drawn widespread shock, resulted in the teenager suffering burns to his head and face.

The Incident

According to the victim’s statement to local authorities, the 16-year-old had gone to visit a friend at a house in Ilion. While there, he was suddenly attacked by a 20-year-old man he claims he had never seen before. The suspect allegedly poured antiseptic liquid over the teenager’s head and then used a lighter to ignite it.

The injured teenager was rushed to Agia Sofia Children’s Hospital, where he remains hospitalized with burns to his head and facial area.

The Ilion Police Department’s Security Division responded quickly and arrested the 20-year-old suspect. A case file was opened against him on charges of causing bodily harm against a vulnerable individual. Despite the serious nature of the charges, the man was released following his arrest.
