Μake us preferred on Google An unusual incident unfolded at Skiathos Airport shortly before a charter flight to Naples was due to take off, when the captain told passengers that their luggage could not be loaded onto the aircraft and would instead be transported on a later flight.
The decision was made after the captain consulted with the airline, according to the report, because of strong winds and the airport’s relatively short runway.
The weather conditions and runway length meant the aircraft’s overall weight had to be reduced to ensure a safe takeoff.
The announcement initially prompted questions and protests from passengers inside the cabin.
The captain then left the cockpit and responded firmly to the concerns, saying: “I am the captain and I make the decision. For everyone’s safety, we have to leave the luggage on the ground.”
The passengers’ baggage was therefore left behind and was expected to be transported to Naples on a subsequent flight.
