Storm Byron has brought a deluge of rain in the Attica region, causing disruptions in the Greek capital as many main roads and streets have flooded, leading to their partial or full closure.
According to the Hellenic Police (ELAS), vehicle traffic on Piraeus Street was halted in the direction toward central Athens, from Chamosternas Street to Petrou Ralli, after large volumes of accumulated water made the roadway impassable.
On Poseidonos Avenue, near its junction with Kalamakiou Avenue, cars were allowed to pass only in the left lane toward Piraeus, also due to flooding.
The Kifisos highway remained heavily congested from Moschato to Metamorfosi, while significant delays were reported on other major routes throughout the region.
On Attiki Odos, drivers faced delays of up to 30 minutes in the direction of the airport, from Metamorfosi to Kifisias Avenue. Motorists heading toward Piraeus on the westbound lanes experienced an additional 15-minute delay.
Local authorities announced that all schools in Attica will remain closed on Wednesday due to the severe weather.
Problems were also reported on the Athens–Corinth motorway near Elefsina, while traffic moved at reduced speeds on Mesogeion and Vouliagmeni avenues.
