Severe weather brought by Storm Erminio, which struck Greece on Wednesday, has caused widespread disruption across the country and claimed the life of a Polish man. The adverse conditions have also significantly affected the operation of schools nationwide.

The intense weather phenomena are expected to persist through Thursday, April 2, prompting authorities to keep many schools closed as a precaution to ensure the safety of students and staff.

In the Municipality of Markopoulo, all schools and nurseries have been shut, while the Municipality of Saronikos has suspended the operation of schools, childcare centers, senior care facilities (KAPI), and sports venues due to the anticipated heavy rainfall. Similarly, in the Municipality of Marathon, nurseries, sports facilities, and creative activity centers (KDAP) remain closed.

Closures extend across entire regions, with all schools in the Dodecanese, Cyclades, and Crete remaining shut on April 2. As stated by the South Aegean Regional Governor, the suspension applies to all levels of education, including preschool and special education units, across the Cyclades and Dodecanese for public safety reasons.
