Greek police have arrested the person they believe is responsible for the fatal stabbing of a 17-year-old during a violent clash in Kallithea, a district in the Athens metropolitan area, although the victim’s identity has not yet been officially confirmed.
Investigators from the homicide unit handling the case believe that the suspected attacker is among at least 14 people who were brought in for questioning following the incident. Authorities are continuing efforts to establish exactly what led to the deadly confrontation, as those detained have so far not provided clear explanations about the events that preceded the violence.
A knife found discarded near the scene is considered a key piece of evidence in the investigation. The weapon has been sent to forensic laboratories, where experts are examining it for fingerprints and genetic material that could help identify the person responsible.
Police are also reviewing witness statements and security camera footage from the area as part of their investigation.
How the deadly clash unfolded
According to initial information gathered by police, the incident began when a group of young people was gathered at a square in Kallithea.
Under circumstances that remain under investigation, three individuals from another group allegedly approached the location and later called five more people, who arrived by car.
