Police in Greece have arrested a 54-year-old taxi driver accused of overcharging a passenger for a trip from Athens International Airport to the port of Piraeus.
The incident occurred on August 21, when the passenger reported being charged €110 for the journey—an amount more than twice the official fare for that route. Following the passenger’s complaint, authorities launched an investigation.
The driver was located and arrested the next day, August 22, at Athens International Airport. He now faces charges related to overcharging and violating fare regulations.
Greek authorities have been tightening checks on taxi services in recent years, particularly on routes frequented by travelers, to ensure compliance with official pricing and protect passengers from exploitation.
