Protests erupted in Kavala on Thursday as local farmers, including grape growers, beekeepers, and livestock producers, expressed their frustration over unresolved agricultural issues. The demonstrators threw milk and hay at the entrance of the regional administration building in a vivid display of discontent.
Gregoris Grouzidis, president of the Pangaio Agricultural Association, told ERT News that the farmers will not back down, describing their actions as “a fight for survival.”
The demonstrations come amid a series of nationwide farmer protests. Meanwhile, a delegation of Cretan farmers, accompanied by the region’s governor Stavros Arnaoutakis and local lawmakers, is scheduled to travel to Athens for a 5 p.m. meeting at the Maximos Mansion with government officials Kostas Hatzidakis and Kostas Tsiaras to discuss their demands.
Additionally, representatives from all Central Greece protest sites are set to convene at the Regional Council to address agricultural concerns, infrastructure, and the framework of their claims. A nationwide farmers’ conference is planned in Nikaia on Saturday, December 13, which could determine the next steps of the protests.
Authorities are monitoring the demonstrations closely, while farmers continue to call for immediate responses to pressing issues affecting their livelihoods.
