An unusual theft in Thessaloniki raised serious safety concerns after unknown suspects cut into the fuel tank of a delivery truck to steal diesel while the vehicle was loaded with dozens of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, Aug. 19, at a well-guarded site in Kalamaria, a densely populated area of Thessaloniki.
According to thesspost.gr, the suspects used a specialized cutting tool that produces sparks to make a precise cut in the truck’s fuel tank. They then used a hose to drain the diesel.
Truck was loaded with LPG cylinders
The theft posed a significant danger because the truck’s cargo area was filled with LPG cylinders ready for delivery on the morning route.
The cutting tool used by the suspects produces sparks, meaning the operation could potentially have triggered an explosion while the truck was carrying the gas cylinders.
Company employees discovered the theft afterward and became concerned about what could have happened during the operation.
The suspects are believed to have closely monitored the vehicle’s delivery routes before carrying out the theft.
