Three people have been arrested in connection with a serious accident involving a five-year-old boy at a hotel swimming pool in Crete, Greek police have confirmed.
The child, who is from the Netherlands and was visiting the island with his family, remains in intensive care after suffering severe head injuries in the incident. Authorities are also searching for the hotel’s legal representative in relation to the case.
According to police, those arrested include the boy’s 36-year-old father on suspicion of negligence, a 27-year-old lifeguard, and a 48-year-old man who was serving as the temporary manager of the hotel.
Preliminary information suggests that the child may have been unconscious for one to two minutes after falling into the pool. Investigators are also examining how the boy sustained head injuries, which reportedly included serious cranial trauma.
The child was initially taken to a hospital in Heraklion, where he underwent emergency surgery. He was later transferred to a specialized pediatric intensive care unit, where he continues to receive treatment under close medical supervision.
The incident occurred while the family was staying at a hotel in the coastal area of Hersonissos, a popular tourist destination in northern Crete. The boy reportedly fell into the swimming pool while at the hotel, prompting an emergency response.
