Drivers in Athens are advised to plan ahead on New Year’s Eve, as traffic restrictions and road closures will be enforced in several central parts of the city due to official holiday celebrations.
According to the traffic police, measures will come into effect from 8:00 p.m. on December 31 in areas around Syntagma Square and Pedion tou Areos, two major public spaces where New Year’s events are scheduled.
Vehicle circulation will be temporarily suspended on a number of main avenues and surrounding streets, including sections of Vasilissis Sofias Avenue, Alexandras Avenue, Amalias Avenue and Syngrou Avenue. Closures will also apply to Stadiou Street, Filellinon Street, Mavrommataion Street and the entirety of Syntagma Square, along with several connecting side streets.
Authorities are urging motorists to avoid these areas during the affected hours and to follow road signs and instructions from traffic officers on duty
