Menidi, a suburb of Athens, has been shaken by two tragic incidents in recent days, highlighting urgent social and domestic issues in the area.

In the first case, a man around 60 years old took his own life inside his home. Authorities report that he had called the police beforehand, declaring his intention to commit suicide. Officers arrived at the scene but were unable to prevent the tragedy and found him deceased. The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death, examining all aspects of his personal and social environment.

In a separate and deeply distressing case, a 14-year-old girl approached police carrying a fetus wrapped in newspaper. She reportedly stated that she had suffered abuse from her mother, which led to a miscarriage. Police arrested the mother, a woman of Roma descent, on charges including child endangerment and severe bodily harm in the context of domestic violence. The girl has been placed under medical care and protective custody while authorities continue their investigation.

Authorities are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward as both investigations remain ongoing.
