The owner of the cookie and biscuit plant near the central Greece city of Trikala, where an explosion in the early morning hours of Sunday claimed the life of five female workers, was arrested on Tuesday afternoon.

Additionally, another two executives of the Violanta company, including the production safety officer, were arrested.

According to reports, the owner of the plant has been charged with involuntary homicide, involuntary arson and causing bodily harm.

The first initial indications point to a gas leak as causing the very strong explosion in the area where the ovens are located, and which claimed the life of the five workers.
An onsite investigation is continuing.
