The owner and two managers of the cookie and biscuit plant where an explosion in the early morning hours of Monday claimed the lives of five female workers provided preliminary testimony to a relevant for four hours on Wednesday afternoon.
The trio was arrested earlier in the day on charges of involuntary homicide, causing an explosion, involuntary arson and causing bodily.
After their testimony they were released pending the completion of an investigation into the blast.
Earlier on Wednesday the fire brigade announced that initial findings point to a propane gas leak that had accumulated for months in an enclosed space as causing the explosion and subsequent fire.
The blast destroyed an entire production line at the Violanta plant outside the central Greece city of Trikala.
Meanwhile, according to a televised segment by Star Channel on Wednesday evening, a police ordnance disposal unit report cites a lack of gas leak detectors at the plant. Additionally, the same report states that the propane pipes blamed for the leak should not have been installed underground, but above ground.
The specific accident report is due to be presented directly to the prosecutor’s office in Trikala.
