A water-dropping aircraft made a forced ditching on Friday morning in the Gulf of Corinth (west of Athens proper), with both aviators aboard reported as safe and in good condition.
Thc CL215 was among a large fire-fighting contingent battling a sizeable and rekindling wildfire that erupted earlier in the week in a remote and mountainous spot in Feneos municipality, in the northeast Peloponnese.
A coast guard patrol boat rushed to the site where the plane ditched.
A mechanical problem was reported during the process of water intake, with the plane then unable to climb at a rapid enough pace.
The incident is the second this week involving a water-dropping aircraft, as a helicopter ditched off the western Attica prefecture port of Elefsina. Both operators were also plunked out of the water unharmed in that incident.
