The Greek men’s national football team crushed Belarus 5-1 in their opening match for Group C on Friday night at the Karaiskakis stadium for the FIFA World Cup European qualifiers.
The Greek team had effectively bagged the 3 points well before the end of the first half, finding the back of the net four times.
The youthful Greek team, brimming with talent, put on an exceptional display of football, with wonder kid Karestas opening the score after 3 minutes.
Benfica’s striker Pavlidis scored a second for Greece before the 20-minute mark (17’), while 4 minutes later (21’) Bakasetas scored the best goal of the night with a 20-meter left-foot screamer outside the box to make it 4-0.
Greece scored a 5th goal in the second half with Tzolis (63’), with Belarus getting a consolation goal in the 73rd minute with Barkouski.
Greece will host group favorite Denmark, which was held to a scoreless draw at home against Scotland, on Monday night.
Ivan Jovanovic’s team was dominant throughout the match, having 15 shots on target and completing 85% of their 506 passes.
