The opening ceremony of the Winter Olympic Games, held in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo was held on Friday evening, with the national delegations – led by the Greek athletes – parading in Cortina.

For the first time, the athletes’ parade took place simultaneously at four locations so that as many people as possible could participate — a particularly demanding challenge for the XXV Winter Olympic Games.
The Greek delegation was the first to enter, comprised of AJ Ginnis and Maria Eleni Tsiovolou (alpine ski racing) along with cross-country skiers Apostolos Angelis, Konstantina Charalambidou, and Nefeli Tita (the flag-bearer).
More than 2,900 athletes from around the world are participating in the Milan-Cortina Games, competing for medals in 16 different winter sports and in a total of 116 events.
