Greece’s women’s water polo team defeated Italy by a comfortable 15-8 on Thursday at the European Championship in Madeira, Portugal to place third and pick up the bronze medals.
The team, coached by Haris Pavlidis, was a favorite in the third-place game.
In the 20-plus years since the Olympic Games in Athens, the women’s team in the demanding sport has picked up numerous “silverware” in European, World and Olympic competitions:
