NBA superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo was a prominent spectator on Thursday at a friendly in Thessaloniki this week between the Greek and Montenegro national teams, where he watched the game from the bench.
The Greek side emerged victorious 69-61 at the PAOK Sports Arena after having suffered two successive defeats during a tournament in Cyprus this month.
The game was part of the Greek national team’s preparation for the upcoming EuroBasket 2025.
The MVP for Vassilis Spanoulis’ team was Dinos Mitoglou, who finished the game with a near “double-double”, scoring 20 points with nine rebounds.
Speaking after the match, Spanoulis, who is also the head coach of AS Monaco, appeared certain that Antetokounmpo will join the club for the European basketball championship.

Antetokounmpo Eurobasket

“Giannis Antetokounmpo will be there. He will start regular training on Saturday, as was our plan. He’s already had one full-contact practice. (Vassilis) Toliopoulos and (Vangelis) Zougris are better, too, and I’ll have more options… these will be the last three friendlies in order to see how we’ll proceed to the EuroBasket,” Spanoulis, himself a European basketball legend, said.
