Greek and Libyan foreign ministers are set to meet in Athens on Tuesday to discuss restarting negotiations on maritime zones, amid tensions over a 2019 Turkey-Libya deal rejected by Greece.
Athens underlines that the deal violates the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea by disregarding the sovereign rights of Greek islands, particularly Crete and the Dodecanese.

He emphasized that Athens has already demonstrated—through maritime spatial planning, the establishment of marine parks, and the licensing of blocks south of Crete—that it defends its sovereign rights in practice, not merely in words.

Later in the day, Gerapetritis also met with Belkacem Haftar, who is tasked with Libya’s reconstruction efforts.
The minister stressed that Greece is in close contact with its allies to address immediate concerns, particularly the safety of Greek nationals in Israel, Iran, and the broader region.
“Behind these numbers are human lives and the rights of generations to come,” he said.
"Europe is navigating through unprecedented crises — wars, humanitarian disasters, climate emergencies," he stated.
