The city cracks down on establishments violating public space regulations, marking over 130 closures since the start of 2025
The municipality is enforcing zero tolerance against shops and restaurants that illegally occupy sidewalks and public squares, with 116 closures already this year
The city will temporarily shut 38 businesses for unauthorized use of public space, as part of ongoing efforts to enforce regulations and protect pedestrian areas in central Athens
POE-OTA highlighted the severity of the situation, stating that the list of those killed while on duty continues to grow, as does the number of injuries and violent attacks by enraged individuals who treat local government personnel as punching bags
None of the buildings slated for demolition have been classified as protected by the Ministry of Culture.
The worker was not injured but was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
