TUI, one of the world’s largest tour operators, points to the Sporades island of Alonnisos as among the top choices in the Mediterranean for holidays this summer.

According to an announcement by the island’s municipality, TUI describes the verdant isle as leading a visitor to believe they are in a tropical zone, with crystal-clean waters and an easygoing vibe.

Andros and Alonnisos

Among others, Alonnisos is well-known as one of the most important habitats for the endangered Monachus monachus seal. The waters off the island have been declared a national park.

TUI is especially generous in praise of the largest village on the isle, in the central Aegean, referring to a beautiful port, traditional tavernas and less than 2,000 local residents. Alonnisos is also a pre-eminent location for trekking and hiking.

“On a clear day you can see as far as Mt. Athos, on the mainland,” the announcement reads.
