The tiny island of Lipsi in the southeastern Aegean is making waves across major German media, as the local municipality calls on travelers to experience holidays rooted in authenticity and sustainable tourism.

According to the German travel site Reisereporter, “Lipsi is the perfect place to lose yourself in dreamy corners. Odysseus probably knew it too, since mythology says he was enchanted by the nymph Calypso and delayed his journey to Ithaca for several years.”

Meanwhile, travel platform Holidaycheck.de lists Lipsi among the must-visit Dodecanese destinations for German visitors, highlighting its golden beaches, local festivals, unique wine, and opportunities for diving in secluded coves.

The island has also drawn attention from Spiegel, which previously praised the efforts of local authorities and residents to protect the environment and water resources. Lipsi has stood firm against the spread of organized umbrellas, sunbeds, and swimming pools, choosing instead to preserve its natural charm.

“Our organized effort to preserve our natural resources is bearing fruit. Travelers are responding to these initiatives, visiting Lipsi to experience exoticism, authenticity, and modern services that do not alter the environment. These choices seem to resonate with visitors. Despite fluctuations in other regions of Greece, Lipsi achieved record visitor numbers this August, with a 5.7% increase compared to last year,” said Lipsi’s mayor, Fotis Mangos.

Looking ahead, a specialized press delegation is expected to visit Calypso’s island, an initiative of the municipality to further promote nature-based and sustainable tourism.
