Gale-force winds sweeping across the Aegean Sea are causing major disruptions to ferry services across Greece.
On Friday morning, authorities announced a sailing ban for certain ports. Ferry services departing from the Port of Piraeus are operating as scheduled, with one exception.
The Blue Star Paros service to Syros, Tinos, and Mykonos has been canceled. Meanwhile, all scheduled departures from the ports of Rafina and Lavrio have been suspended.
Winds Reach Up to 9 Beaufort
According to the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (HNMS), winds are blowing from the north and northeast at 4 to 6 Beaufort, strengthening to 6 to 8 Beaufort in eastern areas and reaching 9 Beaufort locally across the Aegean.
Travelers Urged to Check Before Departing
Passengers planning to travel are advised to contact local port authorities or their ferry operators before departing to obtain the latest information on possible cancellations, delays, or changes to sailing schedules.
