Greece: Ferry Services Largely Operating as Weather Improves

Passengers planning to travel today are advised to contact local port authorities and travel agencies for the latest updates or any changes to scheduled routes.

Ferry services from ports across Greece, which were suspended on Thursday, January 8, due to gale-force winds reaching up to 9 on the Beaufort scale, have resumed normal operations today as weather conditions gradually improve.

According to the Greek National Meteorological Service (HNMS), northwesterly winds are blowing at 4 to 6 Beaufort, reaching 7 and locally up to 8 Beaufort in the Aegean Sea, with weakening conditions in central and northern areas.

In western regions—and progressively elsewhere—the winds are forecast to shift to westerly–southwesterly directions at 4 to 6 Beaufort, and locally up to 7 Beaufort in the south.

As reported by the Hellenic Coast Guard, hydrofoil services to the Argosaronic Gulf are currently suspended, while the two scheduled morning sailings of conventional vessels were also canceled.

Passengers planning to travel today are advised to contact local port authorities and travel agencies for the latest updates or any changes to scheduled routes.
