The Greek passport has climbed to 5th place worldwide in the 2026 Henley & Partners Passport Index, a ranking that measures the influence and global mobility of national passports. Greece, an EU member-state, now surpasses countries such as the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, Monaco and Canada, highlighting the advantages of holding a Greek passport.

This is the highest ranking ever for Greek passport holders since the index was created 20 years ago. The country’s lowest ranking came in 2010, when it fell to 12th place. The Henley Passport Index evaluates 199 passports against 227 travel destinations, confirming that Greece’s travel document is one of the strongest and most attractive passports globally.

Visa-Free Access to 184 Countries

According to the 2026 report, Greek passport holders can travel without a visa to 184 countries, reflecting significant international freedom of movement. Greece improved one spot compared to last year, returning to the 5th position it also held in 2024.

The Greek passport shares this ranking with Austria, Portugal, and Malta, just behind countries offering access to 185 destinations, such as Switzerland, Spain, Norway, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Italy, Ireland, Germany, France, Finland, Denmark and Belgium.

The Henley Passport Index, based on monthly data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), is recognized as the most reliable global tool for comparing passport strength, travel freedom, and citizens’ access worldwide.
