The 2026 Winter Olympics season officially kicked off with a special Google Doodle celebrating curling, signaling the start of preliminary competitions ahead of the full Olympic program.
Released on February 4, 2026, the doodle highlights curling, one of the winter games’ most strategic and visually striking sports, setting the stage for the upcoming Olympic excitement.
According to the International Olympic Committee (IOC), this year’s Games in Italy will feature over 2,900 athletes from 90 countries competing in 116 events across various winter sports.
Greece’s Olympic Team
Greece will be represented by five athletes competing in alpine skiing and cross-country events:
- Alpine Skiing: Alexandros Ginnis and Maria-Eleni Tsiovolou
- Cross-Country Skiing: Apostolos Angelis, Konstantina Charalampidou, and Nefeli Tita
The Google Doodle tradition often spotlights major global events, and this year’s artistic feature serves as an early celebration of the Olympic spirit, just days before the official opening on February 6.
