The Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, Bartholomew I, is set to meet the President of the United States, Donald Trump, in Washington, D.C., in September.
The meeting is likely to take place on September 16 at the White House as part of Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople Bartholomew I’s official 10-day visit to the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America (GOARCH) between September 15 and 25.
Bartholomew is expected to arrive in the United States on Monday, September 15, landing at Andrews Air Force Base near Washington, D.C., for a series of high-level meetings and religious events, according to an announcement by the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America.
During his stay in the U.S. capital, the spiritual leader of Eastern Orthodox Christians worldwide will meet with President Donald Trump, accompanied by Archbishop Elpidophoros of America. He is also scheduled to hold talks with members of Congress and the Senate, as well as with representatives of the diplomatic corps.
Religious Services in Washington and New York
On Wednesday, September 17, Patriarch Bartholomew will lead a thanksgiving service at St. Katherine Greek Orthodox Church in Falls Church, Virginia.
The following day, September 18, he will travel to New York City, where he will officiate at a special service at the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and National Shrine at Ground Zero, a major symbol for the Greek Orthodox community in the United States.
Address at the Council on Foreign Relations
On Friday, September 19, the Patriarch will deliver a keynote address at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) in New York. Later that evening, he will meet with youth leaders from the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America representing New York and New Jersey.
His visit will conclude with a formal dinner in his honor, the St. Nicholas Gala, at Casa Cipriani in Manhattan.
