Developments in the Middle East are causing flight cancellations and rescheduling across Europe. In Athens alone, there have already been more than 20 flight cancellations and diversions to and from the wider region for security reasons.
The country’s national carrier, Aegean, has already proceeded with cancellations of several routes through March 2, informing travelers about ticket alternatives. Similarly, cancellations have already been announced, and more are expected during the day by airlines operating to the region from Athens, such as Wizz Air, Bluebird Airways, Air Haifa, and EL Al Israel Airlines.
Specifically, there are currently more than 20 cancellations from the Eleftherios Venizelos Athens International Airport, as well as flight diversions to Athens. This number is expected to increase depending on how events unfold.
According to Aegean’s announcement, “due to recent events in the Middle East, we are proceeding with the cancellation of our flights to and from Ben Gurion International Airport in Tel Aviv, Rafik Hariri International Airport in Beirut, and Erbil International Airport for the period from 28/02/2026 to 02/03/2026.”
