Iran has said it is maintaining “good contact” with the Indian government over the passage of Indian ships through the Strait of Hormuz, according to its ambassador to India, Mohammad Fathali.
The envoy said Tehran wants to support New Delhi in ensuring the safe movement of its vessels through the strategic waterway.
Key oil route under pressure
The Strait of Hormuz has been disrupted amid the ongoing U.S.-Israeli war on Iran, which began in February.
The narrow shipping lane is a critical global energy corridor, handling a large share of international oil flows. According to the information provided, it is particularly important for India, as roughly 40% of the country’s crude imports pass through the route.
Trade concerns amid regional conflict
The disruption has impacted maritime trade and tightened oil supply chains, raising concerns for energy-importing countries dependent on the passage.
