Following a formal complaint by the Greek Ministry of Culture about the night drone show over the Acropolis in Athens, the Prosecutor’s Office ordered an urgent preliminary investigation into the case.

The head of the Athens First Instance Prosecutor’s Office, Aristidis Koreas, initiated the probe, which will be carried out by the Acropolis Security Department and aims to determine whether any violations of antiquities protection laws or other criminal offenses have occurred.

The show, organized by a well-known sportswear company, took place in the Athenian sky on the night of May 15, with the Acropolis serving as a backdrop. It triggered a wave of public backlash due to its promotional nature and proximity to one of Greece’s most iconic heritage sites.

The permit for the drone launch was granted from the grounds of the Zappeion Hall. According to documents published earlier this week on the public registry “Diavgeia,” the company submitted its request on April 30. The fee charged for the permit was just €380.
