Μake us preferred on Google According to Deadline, the new Avengers: Endgame Encore trailer has made cinema history, racking up more than 77 million views in its first 24 hours.
The figure is genuinely striking, more than four times higher than any other re-release trailer in film history. By comparison, the trailer for Top Gun’s 40th anniversary re-release, set to return to theaters soon, brought in 19 million views, while James Cameron’s Avatar and Titanic re-releases recorded 14 million and 13 million respectively.
The Last “Pre-Covid” Blockbuster
While each of those films had its own strengths, Endgame carries a distinct advantage. Seven years after its original release, the 2019 finale is returning not just to mark the culmination of an 11-year journey, but to lay the groundwork for the next major chapter of the MCU.
The last Avengers film was also the final major global blockbuster of the pre-Covid era, giving it an added emotional weight.
The trailer leans heavily into collective nostalgia, featuring footage of genuine, ecstatic audience reactions from theaters on April 26, 2019, culminating in the legendary portal scene and the “Avengers assemble!” line.
While hopes for a full Director’s Cut have been dashed, the new version adds roughly three to four minutes to the already sprawling 181-minute epic, bringing the total runtime to 185 minutes. Though the additions are being kept tightly under wraps, it’s clear Marvel is using this re-release as a narrative bridge to what comes next.
The Risk
With the film’s return to theaters scheduled for September 25, Marvel and the Russo brothers are betting that fans will want to relive the collective experience, sweetened by an exclusive sneak peek at the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, due December 18. For those catching it in IMAX and Infinity Vision theaters, the bonus footage will run even longer.
Still, the approach comes with some caveats. The new Encore material runs just four minutes, meaning audiences are being asked to sit through an entire three-hour film again for only a few seconds of fresh footage.
There’s also a risk in framing the Encore as essential viewing to understand what’s coming in Doomsday, which features the return of Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom. For audiences already fatigued by the complexity of the Multiverse Saga, the idea of “cinematic homework” could land as exhausting rather than exciting.
Whether this unprecedented digital buzz translates into box office numbers for the Encore, and for Doomsday a few months later, remains to be seen.
Advance ticket sales are already underway, with the Greek premiere set for September 24, 2026.
