The By Hand Festival returns to Syntagma Square this week, bringing dozens of independent creators and small businesses together for an open-air celebration of contemporary handmade design in the heart of Athens.
From jewelry and scented candles to ceramics, natural cosmetics, macramé, textiles, knitwear, wooden and metal objects, prints and paintings, the festival will turn one of central Athens’ most recognizable public spaces into a marketplace of creativity.
The event runs from September 4 through September 9 and offers visitors an opportunity to meet the people behind the brands, discover the stories behind their handmade creations and shop directly from independent makers.

Rather than focusing solely on the finished products, the festival puts the creators themselves at the center. Visitors can browse pieces for their homes, jewelry, artwork and potential gifts while getting to know the small businesses and individuals who made them.
The range of work reflects the breadth of contemporary handmade production. Decorative objects sit alongside practical goods, personal accessories and artworks, creating a marketplace designed as much for discovery as for shopping.
For visitors looking for an alternative to conventional retail, the By Hand Festival offers a chance to support independent creative businesses while encountering the people and stories behind their work.
At its core, the festival presents handmade production not simply as a way to shop, but as a way to connect with contemporary independent creativity in Athens.
