Foreign buyers and investors continue to show strong interest in the Greek property market, with Greece steadily climbing the list of preferred real estate investment destinations. According to real estate professionals, the country’s growing appeal is the result of a combination of factors that have significantly strengthened the Greek brand and boosted investor confidence.
Figures from the Bank of Greece highlight the scale of this trend, showing that foreign direct investment in Greek real estate reached 12.4 billion euros between 2019 and 2025. The inflows far exceeded those recorded during the entire 2002-2018 period, when foreign investment totaled just 3.38 billion euros.
According to Premier Realty, this sustained influx of capital has been a key factor supporting the resilience of prices for high-quality residential properties across the country.
The continued flow of investment suggests that international buyers increasingly view Greece not as a short-term speculative opportunity but as a mature market offering long-term growth prospects, political stability and an attractive quality of life.
Market data from Spitogatos underline the breadth of international demand. Halkidiki ranks among the country’s most sought-after destinations for overseas homebuyers, helping to explain the steady annual price increases recorded across the region.
The Municipality of Athens remains the leading destination for international property demand, followed by the suburbs of Thessaloniki, Athens’ southern suburbs and the Cyclades, which complete the top tier of preferred locations for foreign buyers.
Domestic demand, however, paints a slightly different picture. During the second quarter of 2026, the most popular areas among Greek homebuyers were the suburbs of Thessaloniki, the southern suburbs of Athens, the Municipality of Athens, and the capital’s northern and western suburbs.
Premier Realty Chief Executive Officer Korina Saias said that, for many international investors, Greece’s luxury residential market has increasingly acquired the characteristics of a “safe haven,” combining a high standard of living, political stability, promising investment prospects and property prices that remain competitive compared with other mature European markets.
