TasteAtlas Includes Greek Dish in Top 50 List

The online food journal TasteAtlas recently published a rating of the top 50 potato-based dishes in the world. Greek cuisine did not disappoint, with patatosalata making the cut

Greek patatosalata (potato salad) has been hailed one of the top 50 potato-based dishes in the world by online food journal, TasteAtlas. This greek dish was awarded 38th place on the list.

Greek patatosalata, although further down at 38th, is by no means a mediocre dish. Patatosalata consists of large pieces of potato lathered in a dressing made from olive oil, mustard, yogurt, or mayonnaise. It is also very often modified, with common additions ranging from olives and vegetables to boiled eggs and herbs. Lemon juice is also key to a good patatosalata as it enhances the taste but also maintains the crisp freshness of the dish.

Patatosalata is not considered a main dish in traditional Greek cuisine, rather it is a side dish meant to accompany bigger main dishes. Served either warm or chilled, patatosalata is said to go particularly well with roasted meats.

First place was awarded to a Latvian dish, Kartupeļu pankūkas. These potato fries are made using grated potato, eggs, and flour and is usually served alongside a sour cream or bilberry dip. Eastern European dishes took all three top spots (all three renditions of potato pancakes) with Zemiakové placky from Slovakia and Bulviniai blynai from Lithuania earning silver and bronze respectively.
