Members of the Greek cabinet will spend Christmas Eve’s eve at the Maximos Mansion and receive their duties and priorities for the 2025.
Government Priorities
The agenda of 2024 final Greek cabinet meeting includes the approval of the Unified Government Policy Plan for 2025, which will be presented by Minister of State Akis Skertsos, alongside four draft bills scheduled for introduction in Parliament early next year.
The meeting comes a few days after the government’s budget for 2025 was announced and on the heels of newly announced measures for banks, uniformed personnel, and low-income pensioners.
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will reportedly focus on “polices that improve citizens/daily lives.”
These include 200 reforms and over 200 projects set for implementation in 2025, such as on housing, the upgrade of Greece’s health system and public infrastructure.
Greek Cabinet’s Key Legislative Measures
Minister of National Defense Nikos Dendias is expected to present a bill on the utilization of the Armed Forces’ real estate assets. Recall that during the discussions over the proposed 2025 budget at Greek parliament, there was overwhelming bipartisan support for upgrading Greece’s national defense.
Online media company iefimerida.gr says that Deputy Finance Minister Theodoros Skylakakis will introduce legislation to modernize the regulatory framework for water and sewerage services at the Greek cabinet meeting. Meanwhile, the Ministers of Finance and Interior will propose quantitative targets per service for implementing a system of incentives and rewards for public servants.
Additionally, Minister of Citizen Protection Michalis Chrysochoidis will present a plan for the compulsory expropriation of land to facilitate the relocation of the Korydallos Detention Center, a commitment made during Mitsotakis’ first term, which is now entering its final phase of implementation. The Ministry of Education will also present a bill aimed at strengthening school units and introducing innovations in education.
