Twenty-six scientists who teach or have conducted academic and research work at the University of the Aegean have been included in the latest edition of Stanford University’s “World’s Top 2% Scientists List,” up from 22 researchers in the corresponding 2025 announcement.

The ranking records the research impact of scientists based on bibliometric data from Scopus, the academic database. Selection is based on the c-score, a measure of scientific impact that takes into account citations received from other researchers, the number of co-authors on each publication and researchers’ positions in those publications.

The university’s increased representation in this year’s list reflects research activity across a wide range of academic disciplines, according to the University of the Aegean’s rectorate.

“The increased presence of the University of the Aegean in this year’s edition is a positive development for the international recognition of its research activity,” the rectorate said. It added that the participation of researchers from different academic units demonstrates the breadth of fields in which the university’s work is being used by the international scientific community.

The researchers are affiliated with departments spanning information and communications systems, oceanography and marine life sciences, geography, food science and nutrition, business administration, environmental science, product and systems design, cultural technology and communication, Mediterranean studies, economics and management engineering, and shipping and port management
