Μake us preferred on Google A 12-year-old boy who was seriously injured in an electric scooter accident on the Greek island of Karpathos has been removed from a ventilator and discharged from the intensive care unit, according to a report by Alpha.
The boy was airlifted to Athens after the accident and admitted to the intensive care unit at Agia Sofia Children’s Hospital. He will remain hospitalized in a regular ward for monitoring.
The boy had secretly taken his mother’s electric scooter without wearing a helmet and went out for a ride. He fell and hit his head but returned home without telling his family because he was afraid of being scolded.
His mother said he initially told her only that he was tired. She later noticed scratches on his arm and a large bump on his head.
She then took him to a pediatrician who was visiting the island on vacation. According to his mother, the boy greeted the doctor before vomiting and losing consciousness.
“We went into the car and called the ambulance at the same time, because the village is far from the capital,” she told Alpha. “We met them on the road and he was taken to the hospital.”
The boy was subsequently transferred by air to Athens, where doctors treated him in the ICU. He has since been taken off the ventilator and moved out of intensive care, but remains under medical observation at the children’s hospital.
