Authorities in Thessaloniki are investigating the fatal stabbing of a 20-year-old man in the Kalamaria district, ruling out fan-related motives. The young victim was found critically injured on the street late Thursday and later died at AHEPA Hospital.

Initial reports had suggested the attack could have been linked to football fan rivalries. However, police spokesperson Konstantia Dimoglidou confirmed that there is currently no evidence connecting the homicide to sports-related violence. The victim, while a known supporter of a local football club, had no prior record of involvement in fan disputes.

Incident Details

According to witnesses, the victim was ambushed by unknown assailants with concealed identities. He suffered stab wounds to his back and was discovered around 10:00 p.m. on Argonauton Street. Emergency responders provided first aid before transporting him to AHEPA Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Police from the Sub-Directorate for Organized Crime, Northern Greece are leading the investigation. They are reviewing CCTV footage and collecting testimony from local residents to reconstruct the events and identify the perpetrators.

Ongoing Investigation

Authorities are exploring personal motives behind the attack. While the victim’s name appeared in a broader investigation related to attacks in the Meteora park area, he was not known for violent incidents linked to football fandom. The group involved allegedly used fake online profiles, often under female names, to lure potential targets under false pretenses, suggesting a possible premeditated element.
