A new social tourism program is set to begin on May 1, offering 300,000 eligible beneficiaries the opportunity to enjoy holidays across Greece, in an initiative aimed at boosting domestic tourism and supporting the country’s hospitality sector.
The scheme, administered by the national employment agency (DYPA), provides subsidized holiday vouchers that can be used for stays in accommodation listed in the official providers’ registry. Beneficiaries can arrange their stays directly with participating hotels and rental properties, without intermediaries.
Participants are entitled to up to six overnight stays in standard conditions, depending on availability and agreements with accommodation providers.
Extended free stays for selected destinations
In certain regions, the programme offers significantly enhanced benefits. Holidaymakers choosing destinations in islands such as Leros, Lesbos, Chios, Samos, and Rhodes may receive up to 10 nights of accommodation with no personal contribution required.
Even more generous support is available for selected mainland regions, including parts of northern Evia, the Evros region, and Thessaly (excluding the Sporades islands), where beneficiaries may receive up to 12 nights of fully free accommodation.
Expanded social inclusion
Compared with the previous year, the programme has broadened its eligibility framework. Large families are now placed in the same priority category as people with disabilities, strengthening the programme’s social support dimension. Foster mothers are also fully included, gaining access to the same benefits as other eligible participants.
